(Da Nang, Vietnam) – Since early March 2026, nearly 1,000 women and young people across Da Nang City have actively welcomed and participated in a series of events spreading awareness about the Green and Circular Economy (GCE). This is one of the major objectives to promote citizens’ participation in applying and practicing green and circular principles, not only in their daily lives but also in local start-up and business initiatives.
The series of events is part of the project “Enabling women in Central Vietnam to improve their lives and protect the environment and natural resources by applying green and circular economy,” funded by the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Vietnam. The project is jointly implemented by GreenViet, Visible Impact, and the Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD). This campaign directly supports the project’s goal of ensuring at least 50% of community members firmly grasp the foundation of GCE to drive future actions.

Empowerment from the Roots The project’s strategy aims to attract deep and high-quality community engagement by training 30 outstanding Training of Trainers (TOT) local members, while directly coordinating with the Youth Union and Women’s Union of each project ward and commune. The goal goes beyond merely providing information; it is to empower Youth Union members and Women’s Union members to proactively learn and develop communication activities to inspire and raise awareness among their peers about a sustainable economy.
- Hải Vân: Promoting Initiatives and Creative Communication
On March 22, in Hải Vân Ward, the “Green Initiatives – Action for the Future” competition took place with 6 competing teams from local youth union and women’s union branches. One of the highlights of the competition was the creative use of theatrical performances to bring otherwise dry economic models vividly to life..
The competition was lively with diverse activities ranging from knowledge contests and pitching circular ideas to theatrical communication performances. The teams made a strong impression with their meticulous preparation, from scripts to props. Through engaging performances such as the plays Developing a Circular Economy in Hoa Bac and Reducing Plastic Waste – A First Step Towards Greener Living, as well as the sketch The Talking Bin, participants delivered a compelling message about the potential to transform household waste into valuable resources, demonstrating how everyday waste can become a key input for a circular economy.. In addition, the members contributed many admirable community cultural performances on environmental themes. Thanks to its great appeal and careful preparation, the event exceeded expectations by attracting more than 330 participants, including representatives from municipal departments, businesses, press agencies, and especially members of the Hải Vân Ward Youth Union and Women’s Union.

- Sơn Trà: From Widespread Communication to Practical Application
In Sơn Trà, the series of activities progressed from raising broad public awareness to deeply exploring green and circular solutions for sustainable business applications:
Youth Month Kick-off (Early March): An event co-organised by the Youth Union on 7 March attracted nearly 150 youth union members. The young people explored green and circular concepts together through rewarding trivia and an exciting “Ring the Golden Bell” competition.

Sơn Trà Women’s Festival (Late May): Building on that foundation, the Ward Women’s Union organized an event titled “Sơn Trà Women – Digital Connection, Spreading Green and Circular Economy”. The event attracted the enthusiastic participation of over 250 women members, featuring 6 competing teams and an exhibition space showcasing cooperatives, businesses, and green start-up groups. The festival brought many practical activities such as visiting 08 green booths and thrilling competitions across 3 rounds: Knowledge Quiz, Knowledge Presentation, and Booth Presentation.

Inspiring “Circular Communities” in residential clusters: Building on the momentum generated by these vibrant activities, from June 2026 onwards a series of solution-oriented awareness sessions were organised across neighbourhood clusters under the inspiring theme Circular Communities. A prime example is the June 14 event for 50 women in 3 clusters: Thành Vinh 7, 8, and 10. The sessions focused on identifying and developing circular business ideas for a range of everyday enterprises, including dried seafood shops, sugarcane juice stalls, spas serving tourists, local eateries, and circular cafés. By the end of each session, participants expressed a strong desire for more practical, hands-on activities like these, recognising their value in helping them adopt more sustainable practices both at home and in their businesses.

Impact and Community-Driven Change Within a relatively short period, the project, in collaboration with local authorities, reached nearly 1,000 people through a series of well-attended events and effective awareness-raising sessions, equipping participants with knowledge of the circular economy and inspiring them to embrace more sustainable practices.. Simultaneously, through social media and over 30 press articles, the message has spread to the broader public in Da Nang.
The success of this series of activities sends a clear message: when women and young people are equipped with the knowledge, skills and opportunities to take action, they become some of the most effective champions of greener lifestyles and more sustainable economic models within their communities.
